I’ve had my new Jetta SportWagen TDI for a hair over a month and have put about 2k miles on it and love it so far!
I rolled it over 50k miles on the way home from work on Friday. This thing fits the bill for me perfectly, small enough it isn’t pain to drive on the highway or park in a shitty garage at work. Comfy for longer drives and decently efficient.
That big wagon ass is awesome too, fits all sorts of fun things that I haven’t been able to fit inside a car since I last owned a Suburban.
Bought a new bicycle last week too, plan on keeping it in the wagon and riding it during lunch at work when it warms up a bit. My focus hatch had room, but this thing is even better.
I get ~34 mpg over a tank on a 50/50 mix of highway city driving and during a work trip to KC and back last week I got 39 with the cruise set on 85 the whole way. Diesel is $0.70 more per gallon here so it works about even to my focus cost wise, but I got over 500 miles in that tank where it was all highway driving .
Next - install the Yakima roof rails I bought a couple weeks ago but it’s been too cold to install.

What's next to it in the first photo? Is that a Ramcharger?

If only VW wasn’
t an unreliable piece of shit, with or without the
cheat box,
the wagon with the panoramic sunroof wouldn’
t be bad at all.

No issues so far, and 2 year unlimited mile warranty from VW on it so I’m rolling the dice.
But yes that sunroof is half the reason I bought it!

It’s a 79 International Scout II Traveler. It’s a l ong term project that always stays a weekend or two from good running condition. I almost had it in fighting form over the break then the flex fan destroyed the radiator sitting in the driveway after I got back from a drive.
Downsides is a lot of parts are hard to find, or impossible and need to be made. My dreams were to turn it into a regular workhorse for towing, hauling, camping, exploring and hunting but I have not been able to get it to that point. It’s tough fixing something from a brand that made low volume passenger vehicles and stopped doing so 39 years ago.

I’ve definitely enjoyed it so far. Fun to drive and practical as hell.

I’m loving mine as well. They really seem to be a good value right now. They’re nice, but not too nice. All the quality is there without much flash and I really appreciate that. I think it has to do with not being a real Jetta, but a Golf in Jetta’s clothing.
